Big Snow in Big Bear

This weekend was my first trip to Corey’s cabin in Big Bear. Left Friday night and drove straight up there. It took about 3 hours to get there and it was pretty easy to find the place. Of course, having been to Big bear before, I was comfortable driving up there. I chose not to buy snow chains, thinking that I wouldn’t need them. Boy, was I wrong.

Got there and spent the night getting comfortable and picking out a sleeping arrangement. Everyone was happy to be there and wood chopping was under way. Fire was definately life up there, as it was pretty cold.

Next day, we spent some time tooling around the city, getting food, checking out the tattoo shops and searching for a place to go sledding. There wasn’t much snow on the ground, aside from the disgusting brown chunks around on the streets. The places that did have snow on a mountainside were charging way too much money. So, we headed back to the cabin, defeated and cold.

That night, some of us went out to the city for a few drinks. We found a bar that looked interesting and went in. We had a drink and got tired of the place, so we went out back for a smoke. As we walked out, it began to snow! We weren’t thinking that we needed to go and we saw a great dive bar behind the place we were at, so we headed over. We got some free drinks at the dive bar due to a very drunk and very nice older man.

Then, after drinking and chatting for a while, we went outside to head home. The snow was really coming down at this point. We started to get a little worried, so we started the drive back to the cabin. We stopped at a store for smokes and gas, then began to head up the hill to the cabin. That’s when everything got a little more interesting. Corey was driving and as soon as we hit the first major hill in her neighborhood, the tires started to spin. We stopped and tried to push the car, but it wouldn’t budge.

We finally got the car in a driveway and accepted our fate… we were going to have to walk to the cabin. Of course, we were still about a mile away and that mile was mostly uphill. So, unprepared for the cold and snow, we started our hike. We finally made it there a little less than an hour later. We warmed up and began discussing our situation, knowing that the snow meant a delay in our leaving for home.

Some of us decided to go sledding, as we now had free snow to play in. We grabbed a few sleds and started walking down the street. At each hill that we came to that looked sled-able, we each took turns. Some of the hills worked really well, some didn’t. See, the snow was still less than an inch thick at this point, so bushes and rocks really got in the way. We did have a few good runs down some driveways, though. One of which I ended up crashing through the trash cans at the bottom of the driveway and we all scattered away from the scene of the crime.

The next day, we awoke to at least 3 feet of snow on the ground. This, of course, convinced us that our only choice was to walk into town and buy chains for all 4 cars that were at the cabin. I, mistakenly, decided to go on that walk. So, a few of us headed down the hill to the market. The walk was somewhere close to 5 miles, I’m guessing. Long story short, we got most of the chains and started back. On the way, dreading the climb up the hill, we hung our thumbs out at a few cars. Finally, a nice couple from North Dakota stopped and took us up to the cabin in their 4-Runner.

Once there, the task of digging out all the cars began. After much digging and a trip into town for some pizza (this time in my car, which now had chains securely attached), we finished and discovered that the CHP had closed all highways leading out of Big Bear. Our fears were confirmed, we were stuck in the cabin for another night.

So, we toughed it out and had a great time staying up late. Next day (Monday), we packed up and headed home.

With the cold, snow, sledding, walking, driving, burning, chatting, leaning, drinking, smoking and eating… I can say that I had a fantastic time. I really liked the cabin and the neighborhood was very cool. Everything that seemed bad about the weekend (like walking to town) was actually really fun. I’m glad I went and I hope to go again. Of course, now I have chains, so I’d even go back in the winter when it is snowing.

I put my pictures from the weekend up, too.

Thanks Corey!

halloween

Quick update… my costume went off without a hitch (except for the strange orange stain on my shirt last night). I guess I can reveal what I was now. I dressed as Alex from A Clockwork Orange! I’ve always wanted to do it and this year it all came together. I was in the process of getting all the parts for the costume when I spoke to Joshua to get his advice on how to create the codpiece. Boy did I choose the right person to call because, as luck would have it, he had created the entire costume 4 years ago! So, he loaned me the codpiece, the cane, the suspenders and the shirt! I wore the costume for Hedwig and even incorporated it into my final scene where I became Alex Gnosis. The only part of the costume that I didn’t like were the eyelashes. I glued those fuckers to my eye and they rubbed the skin around my eye raw. Because of that, I only wore them for Friday night. Both Saturday and Sunday nights were all about the makeup instead.

The Braindead party was great fun. We had a deliciously disturbing Cat Litter cake and I served pudding with red goo at the appropriate time in the movie. Most were delighted to get to eat pudding with Vera and Lionel, but some were not so keen on it and couldn’t get it down. That aspect of the screening party will definately have to be a staple from now on. The Ouija board later on was a complete failure, as well as the attempt at Light As A Feather, Stiff As A Board. Otherwise, all had fun and I can’t wait to do it again next year!

Last night’s Pumpkin Drop at CalTech was about as exciting as it ever is, which is to say, not really that exciting. The comment was made that they need to work on their presentation a bit. It occured to me that they probably only have one container of Liquid Nitrogen on top of that building and that probably keeps them from dropping those suckers faster. However, they did have a shiny new sound system that they haven’t had before and played some pretty good music for the event. As always, it was a great last resort.

I am happy that the party-vibe holidays are out of the way until New Year’s. These past few months have been so full of activity that it will be nice to have some time off from doing stuff all the time. It will give me a chance to catch up on the TV I’ve been missing lately. Not to mention drowning myself in hedwig related activity. This month is all about finding new people for the show, specifically a new Hedwig. Then, of course, November’s show must involve a Thanksgiving Pageant, so that always means lots of rehersal and prep work. Wish me luck!

missing

Just stopping in here to let you all know that I’m still alive. I haven’t been in the right mood to be posting here, I suppose. I haven’t really been posting anywhere, for that matter. I’ve been busy with lots of stuff lately, though.

First of all, I got to see Powder again! The show was amazing and they were filming the video for Seat Of My Pants, too! During the show, I was blessed with a fly swatter and a sticker. The best gift I got at the show was the kazoo from Ninette’s mouth! I’m gross, it was still wet from her saliva when she threw it at me. Mmmmm… Ninette drool. The sound was incredible and the virgins I brought along were all very impressed and are all now fans. I can’t wait for the next show.

Since then, I have seen Jinsai perform twice. Once at an art show in LA and another time at a record store in Echo Park. Both shows were great and once again the virgins I brought along were impressed and are now fans. I just love that.

This weekend I finally got to see Corey flex her acting muscles. The show was a series of one act plays at the little theater at PCC. The acts were sometimes funny and sometimes uncomfortable, but all around fun. I really enjoyed it and it reminded me that I like seeing plays, but I rarely ever get to see them.

Speaking of plays… I almost forgot about Clue! On the 15th, Sin’s had their annual performance of Clue at the Nuart. The show was really fun. The cast was perfect and the show was much more than I expected. I highly reccomend seeing this show next year, but make sure and show up early because the line was all the way around the building!

I believe that is all the noteworthy events of the past few weeks,s o onto upcoming stuff…

This week is shaping up to be pretty nuts. Tomorrow is the 2nd half season premiere of South Park! It really has been too long. Thursday is GenderFuck at Hamburger Mary’s in Long Beach, at which Joshua and Kadimah will both be performing! I’ve only been to one GF, but I have yet to see K or J perform. Not to mention, this time April knows in advance and I get to see her down there, too! Friday, of course, is Hedwig, which is always stressful and fun. This show will be my second Halloween show with the cast and, as always, I am looking forward to our costume contest. Saturday is my Braindead party, at which I will be resuming my annual screening of Dead Alive. I’ve missed out on Dead Alive the past couple of years, so I’m excited to have the opportunity to reclaim the tradition.

Of course, then there is Sunday… I have absolutely no plans whatsoever for Halloween. There’s got to be something exciting happening that doesn’t involve going to We-Ho.

I have pictures from the past few weeks, but my computer that I store my pics on isn’t operational. So, as soon as I clean my office and get my computer working again, I will post away.

viva lost wages

This weekend I ventured out of Pasadena for my very first trip to Las Vegas. Not sure what I expected to find there, but considering I’ve only ever been to the airport and the Office Depot, anything would have been fine with me. This trip was very spur of the moment and our luxurious accomadations at the Motel 6 reflected that. Not that I was complaining, of course. The cheap motel room made for more money to spend in the casinos.

I was impressed with my first look at the city of sin. I got out to a lot of the casinos that I have heard so much about and many that I hadn’t heard of at all. My game of choice was going to be roulette, but after losing $15 on the first night, I decided to keep away from those tables. It was just too random and I lost my money too quickly. Instead, I hit the $3 blackjack tables. The first time we played was at The Frontier and I was there for about 4 hours and in the end broke even with alcohol in my blood and a fresh pack of smokes. The second time was at Slots Of Fun (next to Circus Circus) and was there for about 2 hours. I also broke even and had a few drinks. I managed to make money while in the games, but always ended up losing my winnings and fighting to get back to what I had put in. All in all, though, the BJ games were some of the most fun I had all weekend. I am excited to go back next year and clean up.

There was lots of other fun throughout the weekend and most of it was fueled by free or $1 drinks. I didn’t get so drunk I couldn’t walk straight, but I sure as hell couldn’t think straight. Going on such a small budget made for an interesting time and I can’t wait to go back when I have some real money to spend.

Check out some of the pictures from the trip.
