do you smell smoke?

sierra_madre_fire

In case you weren’t aware, the mountains above Sierra Madre are on fire. The picture above is taken from right outside my apartment. TV news coverage is weak, but a guy who lives down the street from me runs the sierramadrenews.net blog which has the best updates I can find.

So far the fire hasn’t damaged any homes, but it’s getting dangerously close. Click on the picture above to see all the shots I have taken since the fire started. I will continue posting pictures as I take them.

feels so good

Mangione!

I finally caved in and switched back to thePlayland as my home on the internet(s). I was using mostlypatrick.com for a while there and found that I just wasn’t posting. Now, I’m home again and it feels so good.

uncle patrick

My older brother and his wife just produced life! I am officially an uncle to Robin Michael Alexander Lastname. He’s pretty cute and has the family chin. You can read all about the whole experience and how he’s doing now on his Mom’s blog.

Not sure when I’ll be heading up there to meet the new addition, but I will surely post pictures when I do. For now, check out Soula’s blog for current pics.

what now?

so, Dead Like Me is being made in to a movie, which centers around a new boss leading the Reapers. No Rube, no Daisy. And then I read this:

STATEMENTS FROM ABC STUDIOS AND CBS PARAMOUNT NETWORK TELEVISION, AND MANDY PATINKIN:

On behalf of ABC Studios and CBS Paramount Network Television:

Last week Mandy Patinkin asked to be released from his role on “Criminal Minds.” We have honored this request, which was not in any way connected to contract renegotiations or salary issues. His departure from the series will be explained to audiences in an episode to be filmed in the near future and broadcast early next season. We thank Mandy for helping to make “Criminal Minds” a strong and successful series, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors. A new character will be added to the series for next season.

On behalf of Mandy Patinkin:

Due to creative differences, Mandy has asked not to return to “Criminal Minds” this season. Mandy would like to thank the studios and network for releasing him from the series and wishes the cast and crew continued success in all of their endeavors, and he looks forward to continuing to work with the Disney and CBS companies in other capacities in the future.

What the hell?! Now Dead Like Me is going to suck a bit *and* Criminal Minds is no longer worth watching! I don’t plan to watch CM when it comes back next season and I suggest that no one else does either. That would be like watching CSI: Las Vegas with no Grissom, which happened for a few episodes and they SUCKED!

C’mon CBS! What the hell did you do to lose one of the best actors your shitty network has ever scored?!

We can only hope that Mandy decides to return to DLM when they go back to a series format (which is proposed).

the D

Got to go to Tenacious D at the Gibson on Saturday night. Opener was Supa Floss, a two man rap group that completely owned the opener status. They were quite funny and entertaining. Then, a horrid schtick-based stand up comic that must have been chosen just to make the D seem that much better. He was horrific.

Then, the show. It was incredible. I had only once seen the D in concert and it was only a quick opener for Foo Fighters at Coachella 2001. This was so much more, if not just for the amazing sets. They took the audience to hell and it was majestic.

They played a few tracks from the new movie/album, which now makes it such that I have to go see the movie to even understand what I saw and heard.

The D rocks. Period.
